About You: A driven and passionate senior professional looking to work alongside an inspiring, dynamic team of leading human rights workers. The candidate will have exceptional accounts management and administrative skills and embrace a collaborative, team approach to the work they do. This person has experience working in auditing, accounting and finance and is eager to contribute to innovative human rights projects that support some of the most vulnerable people in Iraq and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (IKR). The candidate must also have experience in dealing with different stakeholders both in government and outside of it.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The internal auditor will be based in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq and will be responsible for establishing an internal control system for the HAI Iraq office to improve the organization’s operations.

  • Conduct a risk assessment of HAI’s financial and procurement departments in the Iraq office and assess their compliance with HAI’s established financial and procurement policies, donor regulations and Iraqi laws.

  • Develop an internal control system to ensure compliance with HAI’s established procurement and financial procedures and donor regulations.

  • Help in designing the tools to implement the approved internal control system and train HAI Iraq staff on tools and system to ensure rollout in the Iraq office.

  • Conduct quarterly audit reviews of HAI Iraq’s office by examining records, reports, operating practices and documentation.

  • Document audit findings and recommend adjustments to policies and practices to ensure compliance to internal control system, donor regulations and Iraqi laws.

Qualifications:

Essential

· A bachelor degree in accounting or finance is required.

· Seven to ten years of relevant work experience in accounting, auditing or compliance.

· Experience in working in non-profit sector

· Strong analytical, written/verbal communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills.

· Strong commitment to human rights.

· Ability to reside in Sulaymaniyah and travel within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and federal Iraq.

Languages

· Essential – Fluent in Kurdish, Arabic and English

Computer Skills:

· Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), and other financial software applicable to the area of work

Personal Competencies:

Collaborative spirit and ability to work independently as well as in a team; commitment to knowledge sharing and teamwork; positive attitude and ability to see through challenges to find solutions; and strong interpersonal skills and an ability to clearly communicate, including complex concepts into layperson language.
